ハワイが持つ癒やしの力 ~ ハワイ音楽と色彩豊かな風景でリフレッシュ

Hawaii continues to be an unfailingly popular destination for international travel.

Even without traveling there, many people probably feel relaxed just by seeing images or hearing music from Hawaii.

Why are we healed by Hawaiian music and scenery?

We asked Professor Hiroshi Bando for the reason.

The Healing Power of Hawaiian Music

Summer in Japan is intense right now.

Once upon a time, a staple of summer was the beer garden. People in yukata would enjoy edamame and draft beer, with a Hawaiian band playing music.

Listening to Hawaiian music seems refreshing. Why is that?

Characteristically, the majority of songs are in major keys, the chord progressions are simple, and the steel guitar plays continuous, sustained notes. The ukulele gently envelops listeners with its soft tones, and the tempo is slow to medium, perfect for hula dancing.

Because standard Hawaiian music includes these elements, it can be said to create a pleasant feeling.

Visually Vivid, Healing Colors

Now, let's talk about visuals in addition to sound.

When one thinks of Hawaii, images of clear skies, beautiful oceans, and people enjoying vacations on the beach come to mind.

Please look at the diagram of the "three primary colors of light" below.

Don't you feel that these colors are included in the Hawaiian landscape?

The bright sunlight pouring down on the Hawaiian islands actually contains various colors.

Bright sunlight illuminates the vibrant colors of Hawaii's skies, oceans, and flowers, which heals people's minds through their eyes.

Professor Bando's Trivia

~Primary Colors of Light and Primary Colors of Pigments

◆Primary Colors of Light

The primary colors of light include blue, red, and green. When red and green are combined, they make yellow, and when blue, red, and green are combined, they make white.

Incidentally, the blue LED was discovered by Professor Shuji Nakamura of Tokushima University, who was awarded the Nobel Prize. Thanks to him, it became possible to create any color freely, completely transforming video around the world.

◆Primary Colors of Pigments

Do you remember the primary colors of pigments (paints) that you learned in elementary school? The idea that mixing red, blue, and yellow makes black. In truth, the colors are actually a little different. Mixing sky blue, yellow, and magenta paints makes a true black. Come to think of it, the three colors in your home printer are cyan, yellow, and magenta, aren't they?
